Dormant Spray Field Day set for Kern County almond growers
(Bakersfield, CA) - - Kern County almond growers are invited to attend a Nov. 23 field day on dormant spray practices to learn more about using alternative practices to control key pests.
The field day is co-sponsored by the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) and the Almond Pest Management Alliance (PMA.) The PMA is a cooperative project funded by the state Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) to study a reduced risk system of almond production through use of alternative products and practices, on-site demonstrations and grower education.
The field day features sessions on management of Navel Orangeworm, San Jose scale and Peach Twig Borer, as well as a demonstration of topping as a means to reduce tree height. (A complete agenda is attached)
The session begins at 7:45 a.m. at an orchard located on Zerker Road, south of Lerdo Highway and continues at 9:30 a.m. at the Cooperative Extension office, 1031 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Bakersfield.
Lunch will be served. Reservations can be made to the UCCE office at (805) 868-6200.
